New Rock Band Is Flying High
by Emma Kings Wood (Evening Telegraph) 2000
The sky’s the limit for a group of daredevils who are making their first public appearance as a
rock band tonight. Peterborough group ‘Grounded’ are hoping their career as musicians will take off, when they give their debut performance in the city. The five sky-divers, who are all based at Sibson Airfield, near
Peterborough, will be taking a leap into the unknown when they take to the stage at a pub gig. Formed as a way of beating the boredom of waiting to jump when the weather is bad, the band has only been together for
three-and-a-half months. Kevin Goode (41), of Orton Goldhay, Peterborough, an instructor at the airfield, was chatting to a fellow instructor Rory Leggett (31), of New England, Peterborough, when they came up with the idea.
Kevin said: “Myself and Rory went out and bought guitars, and it all really went from there.” “With sky-diving in England, there’s a lot of time watching clouds go by, and we wanted to do something constructive.”
Together with other sky-divers, who were already interested in music, the twosome formed the aptly-named ‘Grounded’. Now lead vocalist Rhino, drummer Chris Hollis and lead guitarist John Shaw have joined rhythm guitarist
Kevin and bassist Rory in a bid to leave audiences floating on air. But the band say they are keeping their feet firmly on the ground - they have no plans, as yet, to sign a record deal.
