In the beginning…
In December 1999, five skydivers who jump at Peterborough Parachute Centre, Sibson Airfield, got together and started playing
rock music. The idea for the band came from rhythm guitarist, Kev Goode and bassist Rory ‘Leggy’ Leggott.
Both these guys, whilst working and jumping at a parachute centre in Wiltshire, had started playing their instruments in
October 1998 as a way of combating boredom when the weather was not good enough to skydive. In the spring of ’99 the pair moved to Peterborough.
Lead vocalist Neil ‘Rhino’ Stokes from Wittering and original drummer Chris Hollis, from Ruislip, had both been skydiving regularly at Sibson for a number of
years. Chris, a drummer of 16 years experience, agreed to start playing after being approached by Kev & Leggy. Rhino got press ganged into singing after a
memorable performance at an impromptu jam session at the parachute centre bar! John Shaw completed the line-up. John lives in south-east London, and skydives at Sibson on free weekends. He met the band when helping
to move kit one jam night. He then stunned everybody with his incredible skill on the guitar!
Basing their material on “Songs that make the place rock”, the guys soon had a set
together, despite rehearsal time being hampered by physical distance. Their debut gig was in May 2000 at the Fiddlers Elbow in Peterborough. A large and
enthusiastic crowd of skydiving rock fans, supporters from Rhino’s work at Thomas Cook and his running club Werrington Joggers, made for a memorable
evening. The gig was a resounding success. The place was buzzing. Terry, the landlord, after selling so much beer was a happy man, were on the scene!
A couple of gigs later, found themselves thrust into thick of the
Peterborough ‘Band of the Year’ competition, battling through the heats to reach the final against five other quality up and coming acts. The final was a tense
affair with the excellent Acer coming out as well-deserved winners. ,
despite their short time together, were the elated runners-up. Picking up their trophies at the Willow Festival a week later, the lads then rocked stage five with a well-received set.
After that, the bookings rolled in as the unique mix of full-on sound coupled with classic rock anthems went down well from Stamford to Sawtry. Comments heard at gigs suggested that the band filled a hole in the Peterborough live music scene.
As time went on were being requested further afield and have been heard ‘Live & Loud’ in Leicestershire, Bedfordshire & Wiltshire. They have also
been honoured to support tribute acts Fred Zeppelin & Limehouse Lizzy
In April 2002 , welcomed a new drummer into the ranks. Mark Rogers, a keen young drummer from Whittlesey has good pedigree. He has been
playing drums since he was six and his father Paul is the drummer with excellent R&B outfit the One-Eyed Cats. Mark has joined the band on the understanding
that he MUST become a skydiver. Luckily, he says it’s something he’s wanted to do for years!
Kev is a full time skydiving instructor with over 4000 jumps & is on the eternal
search for Mrs. Goode. Leggy is an HGV driver and part-time skydiving instructor with 2800 jumps. Rhino is an IT specialist, he has over 2600 skydives and is also
a qualified skydiving instructor. John works in the Music industry as a sound engineer, and has been in skydiving for about 2 years, so far with 100 jumps to his
credit. Mark is a carpenter by trade and is currently very scared!
